GOOD enough to beat RAV4? Subaru Forester Hybrid 2025 pre-production review

Hybrid family SUVs are all the rage, and Subaru’s been missing out on a big slice of pie. Enter the new Forester hybrid, which we first saw in North America in late 2023 but is finally gearing up for an Australian launch mid-year.

Subaru Australia is keeping quiet on pricing, power and fuel efficiency for the new Forester hybrid. If it can get a well-equipped model to start around $50,000 while punching out 145kW or more and getting well under 6.0L/100km in combined efficiency, the Forester could be a winner.

Chasing Cars road test editor John Law heads to a private test track for a first preview of new Forester hybrid and petrol to see if this family truckster has what it takes to knock the Toyota RAV4, Nissan X-Trail, Hyundai Tucson and Haval H6 hybrids off their perch.
