Hands on the All-New Mazda CX-5 from Japan. //2026 Mazda CX 5

There is a Motormouth couple car video showcasing the very first look at the all-new Mazda CX-5 Compact SUV.
The all-new 2026 Mazda CX-5 is now 4.5” longer and the wheelbase has grown by 3”. It’s also over half an inch wider. Mazda is stating best in class second row legroom. The biggest in the compact class are the Kia Sportage and Hyundai Tucson offering 41.3”. The Honda CR-V isn’t far behind with 41”. More headroom as well.
The all-new 2026 Mazda CX-5 Powertrain remains the same, the CX-5 will launch with the 2.5L 4-cylinder with a 6-speed automatic transmission, 187 horsepower and 185 lb-ft of torque, standard AWD.
They didn’t mention anything about the turbo but I can only assume it will be coming. Mazda says this powertrain haas been recalibrated for great flexibility with an emphasis on both sharper response and a more relaxed, quiet drive.
An electrified Mazda Cx-5 option is coming for 2027, a hybrid powertrain which is new to the Mazda family. So this is their own take on a hybrid unlike the CX-50 hybrid which uses the Toyota powertrain. Mazda says, the new SkyActiv-Z engine will offer a higher level of performance and fuel efficiency along with the engaging drive customers expect.
The The all-new 2026 Mazda CX-5 has new technology with an available 15.6” touchscreen with Google built-in. Biggest screen ever offered by Mazda, gone is the dial at the centre console with
Most functions being done in the screen. Not sure at this point what the smaller screen is and if the dial is gone for those models, will Mazda use an existing screen. It’s a very uncluttered interior design. There’s an available panoramic sunroof and new ambient lighting on the front door trims with 7 colour options.
Mazda says the cargo area is also bigger, 2” longer and over an inch higher. There is a lower lift-in height that drops over half an inch compared to the outgoing model. Mazda didn’t say it is best in class though. Best in class goes to the CR-V for overall cargo space at 76.5 cubic feet and for space behind the second row it’s the Tucson and Sportage at 39.6 cubic feet but the CR-V is pretty much the same at 39.3 cubic feet.
