2022 Toyota Corolla…
Let me get this out of the way right off the bat, I really, really wanted to like the car. After watching the GR Corolla short films on YouTube, I had hoped that some of that enthusiast DNA had trickled down to the lower models. Needless to say, I was rather “giddy” to discover I got a Corolla from the rental car agency.
Sadly, my experience with this particular unit was a collection of disappointments.
Now before all the Corolla defenders chime in and tell me I am wrong or my bias is showing, read the top paragraph again and as many times as it takes for my initial point to sink in.
From the outside, I loved the overall look of the car. I believe Toyota gave the Corolla stand out styling, a sense of motion and speed, even when parked. From the inside, exceptional visibility all around, above average interior build materials, very good cargo capacity and surprising fuel economy.
As for the less-than-liked points, the video captures all of those as they were revealed during the road trip, including an encounter with the local constabulary…
