New 2023 Toyota Corolla Touring Sports – Compact Station Wagon
The Toyota Corolla has always been geared towards the needs and preferences of drivers. Since 1966 and spanning twelve generations, the model has meanwhile been sold more than 50 million times – a world record.
For the new model year, Toyota has revised the Corolla and equipped it with a new drive train in addition to optical refinements. It is thus well prepared to consolidate its role as the central volume model for Toyota in Europe. The Corolla is still the second best-selling Toyota model in the region.
The compact series from Toyota offers the ideal model for everyone. There is currently a hatchback variant and a Touring Sports station wagon to choose from. An SUV version of the bestseller will follow in the second half of the year in the form of the Corolla Cross (the vehicle cannot yet be ordered. Fuel consumption values are expected for the expected start of sales in autumn 2022). This diversity ensures that the most important vehicle types in the different markets of Europe all correspond to the same high level of quality in terms of design and technology.
Each Corolla body style has its own unique look and appeal. Changes to the pattern of the radiator grille, the bezels of the fog lights and the design of the alloy wheels give the cars a more modern and elegant look for the new model year. Higher equipment lines of the hatchback and Touring Sports station wagon get new bi-LED headlights, which are equipped with an adaptive high beam system (AHS) at the highest level.
There are also three new exterior colors to choose from, inspired by current trends in architecture, product design and fashion. The strong, eye-catching shade of Juniper Blue is the new trend color for hatchbacks and station wagons. A closer look reveals red undertones that create a special effect with subtle color changes. Available for both body styles, Metallic Gray is a timeless hue enhanced by dark silver flakes in the paintwork.
The interior is more modern and premium with new graphics, trim and embossed patterns. These give the upholstery, surfaces and finishes three-dimensional depth. Panels and seat covers follow the new theme “Dark and Light Harmony” with coordinated colors and surfaces and ensure an elegant ambience in the interior.
The revised Corolla features the fifth generation of Toyota’s full hybrid system. As with the current model, 1.8 and 2.0 liter versions are available (combined fuel consumption 5.6-4.5 l/100km, CO 2 emissions 127-101 g/km, values according to the WLTP test procedure, here it is the current Corolla). Both benefit from significant optimizations to the engine and electric motor, which offer more torque, more electric power, greater efficiency and more driving pleasure. The power control unit (PCU) and the transaxle motor have been revised, the lithium-ion battery is smaller, up to 18 kilograms lighter depending on the drive and even more powerful.
The total output of the 1.8-liter drive is 103 kW/140 hp, the sprint from zero to 100 km/h is possible in 9.2 seconds – 1.7 seconds faster than the predecessor. Despite this increase in performance, CO 2 emissions are expected to remain unchanged at 102 g/km. With the 2.0-liter system, the overall output increases to 144 kW/196 hp, and the sprint from a standing start to 100 km/h takes 7.5 seconds, almost half a second faster than before. A reduction of 3 g/km to 107 g/km is expected for CO 2 emissions (the vehicle cannot yet be ordered. Consumption values are expected for the expected start of sales at the end of 2022).
Toyota’s latest digital and multimedia features ensure an even better user experience in the Corolla. New functions and upgrades can be installed via over-the-air updates. The new 10.5-inch multimedia display shows high-resolution graphics and has an anti-glare screen that ensures the best view in all lighting conditions. Starting with the mid-level trim level, a new 12.3-inch instrument cluster is on board that offers four different modes for customization.
