We like the Toyota Corolla. It’s finally really good to drive, thanks to independent rear suspension, great steering and even a punchy petrol-electric hybrid powertrain. Its boot is comically small, though, so it’s not all rosy. With the smaller Yaris hybrid getting so expensive, the Corolla hybrid looks like good value.

The Corolla ZR hybrid hatch tested here competes with the Mazda 3 M Hybrid, Volkswagen Golf, Skoda Scala, Hyundai i30, Kia Cerato and others. This car costs $34,695 before on-road costs.

As always, we don’t accept advertising from car manufacturers, and we’re powered by Budget Direct – so this is an independent, honest review of the Toyota Corolla.
