The Lexus NX 450h+ is the flagship of the Japanese premium brand’s new mid-size SUV range. Oh, and it’s also the car-maker’s first-ever plug-in hybrid electric vehicle.
Far from pushing the envelope in the hybrid arena, however, the Lexus NX 450h+ doesn’t employ the latest electrification tech, resulting in slow charging times thanks to the legacy electrical architecture borrowed from its plugless hybrid siblings.
But apart from the powertrain, there’s a lot to like about the new Lexus NX, particularly the high-quality cabin fitted out with premium materials. You’ll soon forget all about the noisy petrol engine and slow recharge rate when you cruise around in the lap of luxury.
Lexus has also improved in-cabin technology, creating an upmarket experience that should give buyers of German mid-size luxury SUVs pause for thought. But should Audi Q5, BMW X3 and Mercedes-Benz GLC shoppers take a punt on a Lexus?
