Lexus NX 450h+ 2022 – Best Hybrid, OKish SUV (ENG) – Test Drive and Review
The 2022 Lexus NX is slightly larger than its predecessor in every dimension. It’s 2 cm longer and wider, the wheelbase is 3 cm longer, the car is 5 mm taller. The front track is 3 cm wider, and the rear track is almost 6 cm wider.
This is the NX 450h+, which means a plug-in hybrid. The only visual difference from the regular hybrid model is the charging port on the right side. The boot volume hasn’t changed.
Lexus designers made the hybrid powertrain an integral part of the car, rather than a cumbersome add on, like in the BMW X3. Of course, the BMW has an AWD system that depends on the internal combustion engine, whereas the Lexus NX has an electric motor in the back, and therefore the plug-in hybrid doesn’t need a driveshaft. The traction battery lives under the floor, and there’s no need to move the petrol tank.
The new infotainment system has great potential, but I reserve my verdict for when I get my hands on it after several over the air updates.
